Brett Blackwell is an award-winning Canadian director. He lenses performances with an artistry that captures every subtle gesture and detail. This talent has continuously benefited his comedic work and is reflected in his long-standing relationships with the Canadian comedy community. In 2011, he and 83 Pictures Producer Matt Kloske, joined forces with comedians Naomi Snieckus (Mr.D) and Matt Baram (Seed) to produce "The Casting Room",  a collaboration that earned the team a Canadian Comedy Award for "Best Web Series".

Brett’s most recent short film, “Everything’s Fine With Sandra And Jeremy”, has just been completed and is starting its festival run. The film is an adaptation of a sketch performed at Just For Laughs by the comedy duo Haircut, Allison Price (The Second City) and Pat Smith (CFC Alumni) and features Toronto comedy great,  Pat Thornton (Sunnyside, Satisfaction, Dirty Singles, Stag).

In 2012, Brett earned a nomination for “Best Director” at the Canadian Comedy Awards for “Boss of Me”, being the only short director nominated among feature directors. Of Brett’s shorts both “Boss of Me” and “Happiness is Hate Therapy” were produced with the assistance of BravoFACT!, programmed on CBC and screened at CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival. “Happiness is Hate Therapy” screened internationally at LA Short Festival and Raindance UK. Brett’s first short film, “The Lakeview” also programmed on CBC, shows hints of how the Directors style would develop in the years to come.
